The Long-Distance Queen

For the longest time, I felt like I was the only one going through this long-distance thing until recently. It’s hard to talk about, especially to someone that does not understand that little heartache you get when that special person leaves. My friends know how long I’ve been in a long-distance relationship (5 years now), so I tend to be the expert on the subject. I give relationship advice a lot because I do think of myself as experienced in the subject. But, sometimes, an expert needs help too.

“I have spent almost half of my relationship with my boyfriend long distance! It was SO tough with the time difference but trust the process. Don’t let long-distance be the defining force of your relationship. Communication and openness is honesty helps so much.”

Tosia Ambroziak

“I know the long-distance thing can be hard and demanding, but be patient with both of you. You guys know that you can make it. It’s your brain panicking because you already know how it feels, and you know that it’s not easy. Breath and know that it will be okay! Communication and being present in the moment is so important!”

Nicole Chrz

“Trust the journey and see where it goes! Of course, it seems hard right now because of the state of the world, but anything is possible. The universe is full of surprises. My ex-boyfriend and I were long-distance, and then he moved to Australia. That made it even longer, and with the time difference, it was even harder. Trust me when I say you will make it work! Two people that love each other even when they are apart will swim oceans to see each other. It may seem like a lot, but it will make you appreciate the quality time even more. It can bring you guys closer even more. You can’t control the uncontrollable, but life works in magical ways. Long-distance is an obstacle, but it will make your relationship stronger!”

“Think of this as a tiny bump in the road. It will create such great strength between the two of you, as well as independence and growth! Like they always say, distance makes the heart grow fonder.”

Olivia H

“Distance means nothing when the person means everything! I am in a long-distance relationship, and I have to see the time apart as a blessing in disguise. I can put more energy into myself when he returns so we can have a wonderful time when we have the time.”

Jenny

“My boyfriend temporarily lives 2 hours away, but he lives across the country. The thought of things going back to normal is terrifying for me. It is the distance that makes the heart grow fonder, and it makes the time you have together so much more special. Also, I got into podcasts on the two-hour drives to see him, so I have the opportunity to listen to those!”

“For me, it’s all about trusting the other person and trusting in what you both have as a couple. Good communication and trust are essential.”

Anthea Taeuber

“In a relationship it’s important to understand each other’s attachment styles, especially when doing long distance. If you have a secure attachment you’ll likely be fine with the distance. If you have an anxious attachment it may be harder for you. When you learn about your partner's attachment style it will help you both support each other and maintain a healthy, balanced, loving connection.” If you are interested in seeing what your attachment style is like, visit Science of People attachment quiz here
