Learning to maintain a healthy diet can be an ongoing life adventure. The good news is that as you try new eating routines, you begin to discover the game changers that work for you.

While these life-changing diet hacks can differ from person to person, sharing is always a good idea for trying new things. That's why we sat down with Alexis Ren and asked what her 3 life-changing diet hacks are. This is what she had to say:

1. Avoid Eating at 7 pm.

"I stop eating at around 7 pm. This is part of my dieting routine because I don't like to go to bed on a full stomach. I like to give my body time to digest the food I've consumed that day."

2. Drink Water the Second You Wake Up.

"I drink one or two glasses of water the moment I wake up. No matter what."

If you're wondering why, here are three reasons why drinking water at the start of your day can be beneficial:

  1. It helps to rehydrate your body. One of the easiest things to do during the day is to forget to drink enough water. Drinking water when you wake up is a great way to make sure you give your body the water it needs to start the day.
  2. It can help increase feelings of being full. One study found that drinking water at the beginning of the day can reduce calorie intake by 13%.
  3. It improves mental performance. Dehydration is known to decrease cognitive abilities such as memorizing or learning new things. By staying hydrated you'll keep your brain functioning at its optimal capacity.

Many studies end up finding contrasting evidence when it comes to drinking water. When we asked Alexis why she drinks water when she wakes up she said, "I drink water first thing in the morning because it helps my mind feel clear and ready to absorb the day."

3. Move Your Body, Boost Your Mood.

"I move my body for 15 minutes at the start of my day. Sometimes I do yoga, dance, or just jump around my room. Getting my heart rate going boosts my mood."

It's no secret that our bodies love moving. Starting your day with an aerobic exercise, even it's only for 15 minutes, is a great way to wake your body up and burn some extra calories in a healthy and fun way.

Plus, if you start your day in a happy headspace, eating right and giving your body what it needs will happen more naturally.

4. Drink Tea!

"The tea I drink depends on how I'm feeling. I drink ginger tea for digestion, chai for an energy boost, and chamomile for a treat at night. I usually put some natural coffee creamer in my tea to make it a latte. This is perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth."

Ginger tea tip: Buy fresh ginger from the store and cut it into slices (maybe 4-6 thin ones). Boil the water and ginger together and wa la! all-natural ginger tea.

These Hacks May Seem Simple, But They're Powerful.

These are the three diet hacks that Alexis discovered help her maintain a healthy, balanced diet. These dieting tricks, while they may seem simple at a first glance, are the foundation of any healthy diet.

  • Giving your body a break from consuming food so it can digest,
  • drinking enough water,
  • and incorporating movement into your daily routine is crucial for maintaining a healthy diet.

Drinking tea and listening to her body also empowers Alexis to maintain a healthy diet. On top of that, staying away from processed foods and moving towards eating a whole foods diet can work wonders.
